United Nations General Assembly votes in favor of adding the Responsibility to Protect on to formal agenda for 72nd Session

altOn 15 September, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of including the Responsibility to Protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity into the UNGA's formal agenda, with 113 Member States in favor, 21 against, and 17 abstentions for its 72nd session.

The inclusion of RtoP on the formal agenda demonstrates the commitment of Member States towards the prevention of atrocities and protection of populations from genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing.
