IPU adopts a Resolution on RtoP
Canadian Centre for R2P
24 March 2013

The 128th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) which convenes this weekend in Quito, Ecuador, will be adopting a resolution on the role of parliamentarians in implementing the Responsibility to Protect. This landmark resolution reflects a cumulative process of debate and consultation by all member states of the IPU since the 127th IPU Assembly hosted by the Canadian government in Quebec city in Oct 2012.

Ms. Tina Park, Co-Founder and the Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, has served as an expert consultant for the IPU’s First Standing Committee on Peace and International Security since last fall on this R2P resolution, along with Dr. Ed Luck, the former Secretary-General’s Representative on R2P. Ms. Park will be attending the IPU assembly in Quito for R2P-related discussions and the adoption of the R2P resolution on Tues, March 26th. Ms. Park will also be assisting the IPU’s panel on R2P and International Humanitarian Law (IHL). For live updates on Ms. Park’s observations and reflections from Quito, please visit www.ccr2p.org.
