Panel Event - Will to Intervene Day: A discussion on preventing mass atrocities

The Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Prevention of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity, and CIPS are presenting a panel discussion with Senator Romeo Dallaire, former Ambassador Paul Heinbecker and Member of Parliament David Kilgour. This event is free and in English. Participants will include Allan Rock, University of Ottawa, David Petrasek, University of Ottawa Centre for International Policy Studies, Errol Mendes, University of Ottawa Steve Desroches, Deputy Mayor of Ottawa, Frank Chalk, and Kyle Matthews, Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies.
(…) Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson will designate Monday, 24 September 2012 as “Will to Intervene” Day in the City of Ottawa. The proclamation appeals to the civic duty of Canadians to help prevent mass atrocities and make “never again” a reality. On the occasion, a group of experts will assemble to critically discuss Canada’s role in preventing mass atrocity crimes and operationalizing the Responsibility to Protect principles.
