On 17 November, the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Dieng, briefed the Security Council on the situation in South Sudan following recent developments in the country, including reports of targeted ethnic violence. The Special Adviser urged the Security Council and Member States of the region to unite and take action, and he also provided the Council with recommendations on how to prevent the possible genocide as most criteria for such atrocities are already in place.
